A year or two ago, I made the choice to make a Tumblr, not really knowing what to expect. Once I was on the site though, I was AMAZED with the community I had immersed myself into, I absolutely loved all the people I had met and all the fandoms and things, like anime and movies and shows and stories, I was introduced to. Plus everyone had views that were so much more open than the people that I was around in my normal life. It felt like a place I could really be comfortable in, being what my friends would call "nerdy", and what I would call a "free spirited and original individual". It was just the perfect match for me, so much better than Facebook and so far from the drama that twitter held. I loved how the people I was around on there could take matters, such as current events, serious if they needed to, but still be a lot of fun on their blogs.
About a year or so after making the account though, I noticed something else about Tumblr. It was when about the time when Wendy Davis was doing the filibuster to shoot down the bill that would set restrictions on abortions in Texas, and when the US Supreme Court was to vote on DOMA. At the time, I was not really the best on keeping up on current events, and I really had no clue what was really going on with our government. I was just a naive person who was more concerned with making it through the day. Oh, we're not learning about it in my class, it must not be that important!, I thought.
That night, though, Tumblr showed me just how wrong and naive I was. That night when I logged on, my dashboard was just a mess of posts, screaming about how angry people were with the Texas politicians and how the law they were passing was ripping women of their rights. Before than, I had never even realized the abortion and Equal Rights debates had gotten that heated. I mean, I knew they were a big deal, but I never realized they were SO big. And it really opened my eyes to how blind I was my whole life as I mindlessly shuffled through my day, oblivious to the world past my line of vision. It made me realize how important it was to stay on top of current events, something I began doing from that moment on.
This eventually lead to me seeing how upside down our world was. Laws were being passed for how people were born, middle-aged white christian men were voting to take away the rights of tons of women they didn't even know. I felt sick to my stomach seeing how corrupt this world was. It also lead me to see how politically incorrect my grandparents were at times. I was just so confused and I didn't know what to think.
Finding out I had a high chance of being Bipolar and questioning exactly who I was and what wanted to do with my life didn't lessen the stress any
It wasn't just me going with me though. My friends were going through similar feelings. We would sit around a discuss different topics, but it never seemed to help our confusions. We just seemed like a group hopeless teens lost in a wave of confusion that is growing up, yet somehow managing to stick together through similar feelings and friendship.
One day, we came up with an idea though, to make a blog. This blog. A place where we could share our opinions about articles we read and things going on in the world, and our own worlds and just try to make sense of what is going on in our minds. So I guess you could say it's a rant blog and a diary blog, but I guess you could call it a look into our minds, a way for us to try and explain our ideas and opinions on anything.
And I mean it, we'll probably post about anything. In the course of a day, we could go from tv shows to news articles to movies to personal stories and journal entries to a book we read. It'll just be everything.
We don't expect to get any followers, or for anyone to read this, but we would love if people actually did take an interest in the things we have to say on here.
I believe this is all for now.
Thanks.
